Age and Eligibility Guidelines

US Lacrosse establishes eligibility guidelines in order to promote the game of lacrosse among the youth of America in a safe and sportsmanlike environment. To best achieve this goal, US Lacrosse believes that leagues, associations, and other organizers of youth lacrosse should seek to provide playing opportunities that, as much as possible, establish a "level playing field" among players of similar age, size, and ability.

Team divisions at NHYLA have changed from an age-based system to a grade-based system:

  • 8U:  1st & 2nd grades
  • 10U: 3rd & 4th grades
  • 12U:  5th & 6th grades
  • 14U: 7th & 8th grades*

*any 9th grade player who would qualify as "under 15" at the birthday cutoff of August 31st, AND who is NOT playing on a HS team is welcome to join our league.

GIRLS:  As per NHYLA rules, girls will be allowed to play on boys teams at the discretion of the Board in order to ensure that as many eligible players as possible are available to field teams in both boys and girls leagues.
